I have always
loved drawing and painting. At school I purposely sat at the back
of the class so that I could draw ballerinas, especially during maths!
Art was always my main passion and I always dreamed of being an artist
or a famous fashion designer. My father who, was a keen artist,
encouraged me and I studied at Derby Art College. I attended watercolour
classes and discovered my love for this medium. I have painted in
watercolours for about 30 years and now teach classes in this in Derby.
I have many students who return year after year.
I gain my inspiration from
the Derbyshire countryside, and the changes of the seasons, and Spain where
I have a home. The British countryside is full of extremes from the
wide empty beaches and dramatic cliffs to atmospheric
and misty mountains. We have it all here.
Flowers and my love of vibrant colours also inspire me. I have been doing a Botanical Art Course for the last two and a half years and I am now teaching this subject in workshops at Stanton by Dale in Derbyshire. If you would like a programme please send me an e-mail. I see
inspiration all around me wherever I am but especially on my travels, and
if I cannot paint on the spot I sketch or take photographs
and work on these in my studio in Littleover in Derby.
I am a member of the Etwall Art Club and exhibit frequently. The next exhibition will be At the Etwall Well Dressing May 15th and 16th. Then at Staunton Harold, Ferrers Gallery June 14th to 20th.
I am also happy to do commissions, in particular from
photographs, turning holiday snaps into evocative artwork to treasure.
